Points of Interest:A new punter, Freeman’s big day & will they win again?

December 2nd, 2009 | by Thomas Gemkow |

Bucs sign a new leg
The Buccaneers have signed punter Sam Paulescu to replace injured Dirk Johnson. Small move in the grand scheme of things.

Paulescu was on the Redskins roster earlier this season, and has played in 12 career NFL games combined in his time with the Redskins, Broncos and Cowboys.

Let’s hope this guy is money, because our offense may see quite a few more 3rd downs that do not get converted.

Freeman has best day as a pro
Turns out Raheem Morris may be proving me wrong on this one. I have been a big advocate of letting rookie quarterback and franchise future Josh Freeman sit on the bench for the rest of this disasterous season.

Freeman though, has impressed. The rookie went 20-29 for 250 yards and two touchdowns against the Falcons last Sunday.

Amazing what happens when your top target–Antonio Bryant–can actually play. The injury plagued wide out caught 3 of Freeman’s passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in the 20-17 loss to the Falcons.

Is a win in the cards for the Bucs?

With five games remaining this season, and the Bucs sitting at 1-10, the question stands: Will the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win another game this season?

The Bucs will play the Panthers, Jets, Seahawks, Saints and Falcons to close out the season–hardly what anyone would consider an easy schedule.

I predict that the Bucs will finish 2-14, with their last win coming either against the Jets or Saints. As much I would like to see the Saints go undefeated this season–and they have been a blast to watch–I do think that the Bucs are starting to hit their stride, and could spell trouble for the Saints, as they will surely be resting some stars at that point in the season.
